On June 20, 2014 at approximately 9:30 am, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a domestic dispute on Christol Lane in Vanceboro, NC. Deputies responded to the scene and began an investigation. As a result, Deputies arrested Donnie Pernell Smith, age 22 of Mile Road in Vanceboro and charged him with Assault on a Female. Smith was taken before Magistrate Jasper Mills and ordered held in the Beaufort County Detention Center without bond. Smith was released on June 22nd after posting a $1000 secured bond set by a District Court Judge.
On July 30, 2014 at approximately 7:30 am, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dispute at the same residence on Christol Lane. Responding Deputies learned that Smith had returned to the residence in violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order. Smith reportedly broke into the residence, assaulted a male inside, then forced an adult female and two minor children to leave with him. A vehicle at the scene was also vandalized.
Deputies responded to the area to attempt to locate the female and two children. The Craven County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the search. Smith, the female victim and the two children were located by Craven County Deputies at a residence on Molly Ave in Craven County. Smith was taken into custody by Craven County Deputies and charged with Domestic Violence Protective Order Violation and Simple Assault in Craven County and transported to Craven County Magistrate’s Office. Smith was held without bond.
After completion of the investigation by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Brad Shackelford obtained warrants charging Donnie Smith with two(2) counts of Felony Breaking and Entering to Terrorize, Second Degree Kidnapping, Assault Inflicting Serious Injury with Minor Present, Felonious Restraint, Assault by Strangulation, Domestic Violence Protective Order Violation, Domestic Criminal Trespass, Larceny After Breaking and Entering, Assault on a Female, Injury to Personal Property and Simple Assault. Smith was served at the Craven County Detention Center and ordered held without the benefit of bond.
