On August 19, 2014, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of fraud from the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. Numerous checks were reported stolen in Pitt County and passed in Beaufort County. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.
As a result, Investigator Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging Derrick Wayne Modlin, age 36, of North Boyd Road in Pinetown NC and Sharon Lynn Weaver, age 37 of Redmon Road in Elm City NC with five counts each of Obtaining Property by False Pretense. Modlin was arrested on August 27th by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Magistrate’s Office and brought before Magistrate Sadler. Modlin was released after posting a $6,000.00 secured bond. Weaver was arrested on September 5th by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office. She was held on a $3,000.00 secured bond.
