On December 16, 2014, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received various reports through various social media sources of a threat directed toward Southside High School located on Hwy 33 E in Chocowinity. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats communicated that are directed toward the public, businesses and educational facilities seriously.
Beaufort County Sheriff Ernie Coleman has ordered an investigation into the complaint and his office is working in coordination with Beaufort County Schools to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students and faculty of all schools.
As a result of the investigation, Inv. Jeremy Landeck applied for and obtained a warrant charging Cameron Dubose, age 16, of Frederick Road in Chocowinity with one count of Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct By Disturbing Peace/Order/Discipline At School From Magistrate Eric Holmes. The disorderly conduct charge stemmed from Dubose posting several comments on various social media outlets, which caused the disruption of daily operations and affected student attendance.
On 12/18/14, Dubose was arrested by Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Investigators at his residence and was placed on house arrest with electronic monitoring by District Court Judge D Cayton.
Investigators are continuing to review evidence seized during the investigation. At this time the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has not found any credible threat toward Southside High School or any other school in Beaufort County.
