On February 23, 2015, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a Breaking & Entering and Larceny that occurred at a residence on Bear Creek Road in Grimesland. The victim reported the suspect took two shotguns and four rifles. The victim later discovered numerous articles of jewelry and two additional rifles had been taken over a course of several months. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, conducted interviews and collected evidence. During the investigation, six firearms were recovered in Greenville, one was recovered in Oak City and one has been located in Texas.
As a result, Investigator Jeremy Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging Edward John Mullen III, age 22, of Grimesland, NC with eleven counts of Breaking and Entering, eight counts of Larceny of a Firearm, seven counts of Larceny After Breaking and Entering, four counts of Safe Cracking and two counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense. Mr. Mullen was also charged by Pitt County Sheriff Office with three counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense and three counts of Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
On March 6, 2015 Mullen was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and served with these warrants. Mullen was ordered held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $35,000.00 secured bond for the Beaufort County Charges and a $25,000.00 secured bond for the Pitt County charges set by Magistrate D. Sadler. Additional charges are pending in this case.
