On 12/24/2017 shortly after 3:00pm the body of 27 year old Timothy Bernard Moore of Belhaven was discovered on a dirt road off of Beach Ridge Road in Belhaven. A passing motorist made the discovery and reported it to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s Investigators responded to the scene and began their investigation. After processing the scene for over 7 hours, Investigators recovered over 30 pieces of physical evidence believed to be associated with the crime. Preliminary findings indicate Moore was shot however an autopsy is being performed today to determine the exact cause of death.
Sheriff’s Investigators have worked through the holidays interviewing Moore’s friends, family and anyone who may have come in contact with him in the hours prior to his death.
On Tuesday, January 2, 2018 Beaufort County Investigators were granted a warrant charging 23 year old Jayquwan Lamar Newmones with an open count of Murder for the shooting death of Timothy Bernard Moore. Newmones is also charged with one count each of Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon and Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. Newmones is approximately 5”-5” tall and his whereabouts are unknown at this time. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office along with other local Law Enforcement agencies are actively searching for him. The Beaufort County Crime Stoppers Board has approved a $1,000.00 reward for any information leading to his location and arrest. After unsuccessful attempts in locating Jayquwan Lamar Newmones Sheriff’s Investigators enlisted the help of the Greenville Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and the NC SBI Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force. On Sunday, February 11, 2018 Members of the SBI Task Force, the FBI and the Richmond County Georgia Sheriff’s Office located and arrested Khalif Muhammed Newmones, age 25 of 252 Duke Street, Belhaven NC and Alicia Hassona Polen, age 27 of 1903 Cooney Cir., Augusta, Georgia. Both have been charged with Accessory after the Fact to Murder. Both are being held in the Charles B. Webster Detention Center without bond and are awaiting extradition back to Beaufort County.
Jayquwan Lamar Newmones is still wanted for Murder and is believed to be in the Augusta, Georgia area. Beaufort County Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000.00 reward for information leading to his capture.
