On February18, 2024, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of possible human skeletal remains found in a wooded area near River Rd. in Washington. Deputies responded to the scene where they conducted a search of the area on foot and with a drone. The presence of skeletal remains was confirmed. A Medical Examiner responded to the scene to assist Deputies. Upon completion of the search and recovery, all remains were transported to ECU Health. The investigation is continuing.
