The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of an attempted phone scam involving someone representing themselves as a member of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

The individual identifies the resident by name and address and tells the resident they have an Order For Arrest with a $3,750 bond. The suspect then requests payment over the phone. Fortunately, no one has reported giving money to the caller.

Residents will never receive a call from Sheriff Hammonds or his staff demanding payment over the phone for any reason. If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, you can reach out to your local law enforcement agency to report the incident.
