On August 16, 2014 at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual assault of a juvenile which occurred at a residence on Mill Road in Chocowinity, NC. Deputies responded and learned of an additional sexual assault of a second juvenile by the same suspect. An Investigator responded to the scene, conducted interviews, and gathered evidence.
As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Deputies arrested Derrick Antoine Murray, age 43, of Mill Road in Chocowinity and charged him with Indecent Liberties With a Child and three (3) counts of Selling or Delivering a Controlled Substance to a Minor Under 16 Years of Age but More Than 13 Years of Age. Murray was brought before Magistrate David Curtis and released after posting a $20,000.00 secured bond.
The investigation into the incident continued in conjunction with an on-going investigation into a report alleging sexual assault in April of 2014. On September 5th, Investigator Jonathan Fowler applied for and obtained warrants charging Murray with Statutory Sex Offense of a Person Who Is 13, 14, or 15 Years Old, Sex Offense by Subject In a Parental Role, Disseminating Obscene Material to Minor, Indecent Liberties With a Child, two (2) counts of Solicitation of Prostitution From a Minor, and Misdemeanor Sexual Battery. Murray was arrested on September 10th and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000.00 secured bond issued by Magistrate Donald Sadler.
