On February 21, 2017 shortly after 12 noon, an alert neighbor in the River Road Estates Mobile Home Park saw something she thought was suspicious. She watched as two young men backed a car into a neighbors drive way and proceeded to break into his storage shed and his home. She immediately called 911 and gave Tele-communicators a play by play as the event unfolded. She was able to describe both the suspects, their vehicle and was able to watch them leave and give Tele-communicators a direction of travel.
Two Beaufort County Sheriff’s Investigators, conducting an interview in another unrelated Break in, were in the area when Tele-communicators broadcast the crime via radio. In a matter of minutes after the two suspects fled the scene, those Investigators located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and took 16 yr. old Gasper Cruz-Vasquez and 17 yr. old Jose Gamboa-Gomez, both of Washington, into custody.
During further investigation and a search of the suspect’s vehicle, Investigators located power tools stolen during the break in. The victim in this case responded to the scene, escorted by an Investigator and positively identified the stolen items. Both Cruz-Vasquez and Gamboa-Gomez were charged with one count each of Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny. Cruz-Vasquez also faces a misdemeanor charge for giving false information to Law Enforcement.
Both suspects were ordered held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $15,000.00 secured bond.
