Education Level
High School diploma, or GED, and a North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training Certificate
Duties
Provide a wide range of services to the public as a sworn law enforcement officer to include protecting lives, property, and rights of the citizens in Beaufort County. Serve legal papers, attend court, answer complaint calls and patrol the County in an official vehicle to deter crime or apprehend violators or suspects.
Pay
Minimum Salary $42,000, Mid-Point Salary $48,469, and Maximum Salary $59,655 DOQ plus $2,000 Associate or $4,000 Bachelor’s Degree educational incentive, 401K Benefit, and longevity benefits.
Longevity Pay is as followed to current base salary.
- 1st Five Year Interval 1.5%
- 2nd Five Year Interval 2.25%
- 3rd Five Year Interval 3.25%
- 4th Five Year Interval 4.50%
- Each Additional Five Year Interval 4.50%

Packages may be picked up or mailed out Monday through Friday from 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m. at the Beaufort County Sheriffs Office located at 210 North Market Street in Washington. Information is also available online at beaufortcountysheriff.org/resources/careers/ There is no application deadline for this position. Applications are continuously accepted for all positions at the Sheriffs Office and maintained for 120 days. After initial screening, a background investigation may be conducted on Application Packets to determine suitability. The background investigation will include at a minimum: contacting references and employers, a credit report screening, a physical exam, a psychological exam and a drug screen. State law requires that all sworn Deputy Sheriffs be at least 21 years of age. Females and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
