Salary Range – As of July 1, 2024
Hiring Rate $40,744 Mid-Point $52,967
Starting annual salary for this position is $42,780
An additional $2,000 for any Associate Degree or an additional $4,000 for any Bachelor Degree
Education Level Required
Graduation from high school documented by a diploma or transcript. After hired, Applicant will be provided with the proper training to work in the 911/Communications Center, to include a 51-Hour Telecommunicator Certification Course. Previous years of experience in the area of telecommunications will be recognized when establishing salary. If hired, an educational incentive of $2,000 more annually will be added to the starting salary if applicant holds an Associate’s Degree and $4,000 more annually if applicant holds a Bachelor’s Degree.
Duties
The 911 Telecommunicator works in the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office enhanced 911 Communications Center.
- Answers incoming 911 calls, non-emergency administrative lines, and obtains and properly verifies the location where service is needed.
- Assists and instructs callers using Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and fire protocols.
- Gathers necessary information for responders. Utilizes the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for call processing and dispatching, mapping, monitoring and reporting.
- Operates a computerized, multi-channel two-way radio to transmit and receive messages, and monitor responder activity.
- Operates the telephone system to include transferring, speed dial and other functions essential to daily operations.
- Makes notification and relays information as needed.
- Completes required continuing education to maintain certifications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Applicants for this position must have good computer/typing skills, ability to remain focused under stressful emergency situations, and be able to multi-task.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must have the ability to sit stationary for extended periods of time, working 12-hour shifts rotating between day shift and night shift.
